No matter which team wins big this Super Bowl weekend or how much you have to pay up if your team loses, we want to make sure you still have some big bucks in your bank account when the dust has settled. Here’s a new batch of FREE things to do this weekend before and after the big game.

Friday Night Liberty

Recreational Music Center

This monthly first-Friday evening event features FREE open artist studios, galleries and events through NTC Promenade Arts & Cultural District. Free parking and free admissions. This Friday, check out a metals demonstration on making a copper heart at the Bravo School of Art and try your hand and talents on different musical instruments at the Recreational Music Center.  5-8pm

FREE Piano Classics 
Soak in a free music concert at UCSD’s Conrad Prebys Music Center when master’s degree candidate Brendan Nguyen performs works by Sciarrino, Scarlatti, and Beethoven. 8pm.

Big Birthday Bites

On the 5th of each month, Barra Barra in Old Town San Diego holds a Birthday Fiesta for all that month’s celebrants. Revel in the Rancho California ambience while you nosh on a FREE entrée of your choice with a purchase of a beverage. Rounding out your birthday festivities are mariachi bands and other entertainment. Ole!

Saturday, February 6

FREE Admission Day
Enjoy an admission-free day at the Lux Art Institute, a different museum experience that lets you see art happen, rather than a static piece. During this family-friendly Saturday, you’ll hear live jazz guitar, take free tours of the facility, work on a collaborative painting project in the Lux Classroom and check out resident artist Iva Gueorguieva’s large-scale, abstract paintings.

Tet Festival
TET FestivalCelebrate the Vietnamese lunar new year with the Vietnamese Federation of San Diego’s Tet Festival. Enjoy this holiday with Vietnamese food, lion and dragon dances, fine arts exhibits, an ao dai dress show, music and games. Linda Vista Library at 10am-10pm

Families Stand Together
Join KPBS and Escondido’s Children’s Museum for two special screening of Families Stand Together, an HD special aiming to help families with young children who are experiencing economic difficulty by offering strategies and tips. This FREE event also includes craft activities, snacks, entertainment, resource booths that focus on money-saving solutions. RSVP required.

Museum Re-opening
Junipero Serra Museum (the site of California’s first mission) in Old Town celebrates it’s re-open with a family scavenger hunt, hands on archaeology, and free guided tours of the museum. 10-5pm.

Wildlife Tracking
Learn the art of discovering signs left behind by wild creatures during two fun-filled hours of “dirt time.” Led by tracking expert Mike Gibbs at Mission Trails Regional Park. Meet at the visitor center at 8am and wear long pants!

Sunday, February 7

Family Art Day
Bring the brood over to the Oceanside Museum of Art for this FREE event, where you’ll learn how to make Chinese paper lanterns and calligraphy in celebration of the Year of the Tiger. 1-4pm

Silent Sundays
Experience the early days of silent movies and set your sights on the FREE silent film showing each month at Alchemy Restaurant & Bar in South Park. Silent Sundays is presented every first Sunday of each month alongside Prohibition Era jazz and speakeasy cocktails. 8pm

Fiscally Fit 
Financial expert Rick Bueter shares tips on cash management, accumulating wealth, locating and maximizing discretionary income, and having financial blueprints during this lecture at the First United Methodist Church of San Diego in Mission Valley. 11am.

Charity Workouts 
Charity WorkoutsEvery Sunday at 9:30am, Charity Workouts meets in Balboa Park for a donation-based and rigorous boot camp workout. All donations are voluntary, but a minimum of $5 is your best bet. All proceeds go to a local charity that supports outdoor experiences for underprivileged youth. Keeping fit while supporting a worthwhile cause? Breaking a sweat never sounded so good.
