Day of Remembrance – Mon, May 31
This celebration, held at the Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery, is one of the largest memorials dedicated to our fighting men and women. The Memorial Day ceremonies include music by U.S. Marine Corps Band, wreath tribute, speeches, cannon and rifle salute, bagpipe music, readings.

Memorial Day at Mount Hope – Mon, May 31
Honor the soldiers of the Civil War at Mount Hope, one of San Diego’s oldest cemeteries. Take note of the burial sites for some of San Diego’s noted news-makers, such as Horton, Marston and Sessions, and stay for the ceremony by Sons of Civil  War Veterans as they honor the 620,000 casualties of the Civil War. Starts at 1:30pm.

Memorial Day Celebration at Mount Soledad – Mon, May 31
Celebrate Memorial Day on a high note with a high vantage point at Mount Soledad in La Jolla. During this celebration, witness a special plague presentation to a medal of honor recipient to one of the most decorated Vietnam War veterans.

Ethnic Food Fair – Sun, May 30
Spend the afternoon feasting on the world’s cuisines, including those from Scotland, Iran, Lebanon, and Hungary at this annual event. You can purchase food items and drinks for a nominal fee, but the music, international performances, native costumes, and food happy atmosphere is FREE. Balboa Park.

Baja by the Sea – Sat, May 29
The spirit of Baja comes to Seaport Village this weekend with this event that features food, music, arts, real estate and travel opportunities from each of Baja’s five cities. Also, nibble on the cities’ signature foods, such as lobster from Rosarito and Caesar salad from Tijuana.

Philippine Faire – Sat, May 29
Join the local Filipino community in celebrating an early Independence Day during the annual Philippine Faire at Kimball Park in National City. Festivities include a parade depicting various cultural festivals in the Philippines, musical and dance performances, food, artifacts and vendors.

Santee Street Fair – Sat, May 29
Hop to the end of the trolley line and join the 30,000 others at the Santee Street Fair. Event includes hundreds of vendors, live music, rides, rock climbing and food booths. Beer and wine gardens are extra.

Valley Center Western Days 2010 – May 28-30
Saddle up and spend your Memorial Day weekend cowboy-style with the Valley Center Western Days 2010. This all-weekend event includes a the Stampede Rodeo, parade, an Honorary Mayor race, live music, mechanical bull rides, rock wall climbing, pony rides, and food.

American Heritage Car Show – Sat, May 29
Roll out to Escondido to check out more than 200 domestic and imported pre-1974 cars. Event also includes vendors, a pancake breakfast, awards and tours of the Escondido History Center.
