Keep the big bucks in your bank account this weekend, as there are plenty of FREE events in San Diego County to fulfill your end-of-week cravings to be out and about.

30th on 30 - Fri, July 30
This ALMOST-FREE restaurant/bar hop happens on the 30th Street Corridor in North Park and South Park where you’ll find neighborhood eateries and dive bars practically back to back. On the 30th of each month, these establishments team up to offer rock-bottom dining and drinking deals (starting at around 5 or 6pm, continuing into the night). This Friday, here are some of the offers you can sink your teeth into:

Rancho’s Cocina – Vegan/veggie tamale or a chicken tamale with salsa de mole, paired with Orange Ave Wit from Coronado Brewing Company — Tamale and Beer for $5, cash only.

MIHO Gastrotruck Will be parked in front of Pat’s Corner (Upas & 30th) with $2 specials.

Splash Wine Lounge: $2 Sangria and $3 cheese plates

El Take It Easy: On the front patio: $3 pork belly tacos and $2 half pours of Green Flash 30th Street Pale (these specials are cash only, tax and service included).

The Office: The Office will feature it’s 2 for 1 Drink specials on everthing in the bar from 5-8pm.

Toronado: $3 pints of 30th Street Pale Ale; $2 Hot Dogs / Veggie Dogs

Soho: Two beef brisket sliders or two vegetarian garbanzo bean sliders for $2.50. The beer special will be any draft beer of choice for $3.00.

Family Art Day – Sun, Aug 1
Bring your little budding artists to Oceanside Museum of Art to make a flag that symbolizes your family and personal history during this FREE Family Art Day. Free admission to museum and all its exhibits, plus free healthy snacks too. All materials provided. 1-4pm.

Handlery Hotel, San Diego, CA

Dive-In Movies - Fri, Jul 30 + Sat, Jul 31
Sit poolside or stay afloat while watching family-friendly comedies or animation at the Handlery Resort in Mission Valley during its summer dive-in movie series at their pool. On Friday, they’re playing The Game Plan, starring “The Rock”, and Saturday, you can watch Race to Witch Mountain, a science fiction adventure. Movies start at 8pm and hotel parking is $2 with validation.

FREE downtown workouts - Sat, Jul 31 + Sun, Aug 1
Introduce your downward dog to Snoop Dog during Lululemon’s FREE hip-hop yoga class this Saturday at 9:30am, taught by local actress and yogini Karson St. John. Class is held at the downtown San Diego Lululemon showroom. Then, on Sunday at 10am, take advantage of Lululemon’s FREE Sweaty Sunday workouts in downtown, ranging from Muay Thai to an outdoor bootcamp to a kettlebell class.

Bon Odori Festival
- Sat, Jul 31
Called the Festival of Joy, O-Bon is one of the most important Japanese holidays (right behind the New Year).  ‘Bon Odori’ refers to an outdoor community dance with hundreds of people as the sun sets on a summer evening. See dancers in yukata, listen to taiko beats and munch on bento and other Japanese treats. The event goes from 5:30 until 8:30 PM. You can buy dinner or snacks. Event starts at 5:30pm at the San Diego Buddhist Temple.

Point Loma Summer Concerts

Point Loma Summer Concerts - Fri, Jul 30
Watch a live, outdoor re-creation of a Rolling Stones concert this Friday as part of the Point Loma Summer Concert series. Concerts start at 6pm at Point Loma Park on Catalina between Point Loma Avenue and Tabot/Hill Streets.


Super Sonic Samba School
- Sun, Aug 1
Shake up your Sundays with FREE Brazilian samba drumming and dance classes with Super Sonic Samba School. They meet 12-2:30pm just south of Balboa Park’s Children’s Playhouse on Park Boulevard for an afternoon of Rio de Janiero Carnival marching drums and jamming samba reggae.

Pine Valley Days – Fri, Jul 30 + Sat, Jul 31
Festivities begin at Pine Valley County Park with deep-pit barbecue dinner Friday night, music by Honky Tonk Kings. Saturday morning offers breakfast burritos at the Pine Valley Clubhouse (7am to 9am), parade along Old Highway 80 (9am), food, craft vendors, climbing wall, more at Pine Valley County Park. 619-473-1096.
