Fulfill your end-of-week cravings to be out and about in the hot summer sun. This list of 10 FREE events in San Diego will keep both your wallet and your social calendar brimming with the good stuff.

Pride Parade

San Diego Pride Parade
– Sat, July 17
This lively parade is the 5th largest LGBT parade in the country, with more than 150,000 spectators and dozens of vibrant, colorful floats. This year, actress Clois Leachman serves as celebrity grand marshal alongside global human-rights activist Stuart Milk, founder of the Harvey Milk Foundation. The parade begins at 11am at University Avenue and Normal Street, left on 6th Avenue, then down to Balboa Park.


Target Arts & Wonder Free Family Event
– Sat, Jul 17 + Sun, Jul 18
In its commitment to making the arts affordable and accessible, Target is offering these  FREE  admissions this weekend:

South Park Walkabout – Sat, Jul 17
Enjoy the late summer hours with this  fun, quarterly walkabout in South Park, a charming neighborhood with fine Craftsman architecture, wide sidewalks, coffeeshops, taverns and a funky atmosphere. You’ll also enjoy live music, extended shop hours (many that offer FREE refreshments) and specials, plus a FREE trolley from 6-10pm to get you around the area (though we believe it’s much more fun to explore on foot). Urban Safaris is also giving FREE neighborhood walking tours.

Over-The-Line Tournament – Sat, Jul 17 + Sun, Jul 18
This is San Diego’s original boisterous beach sport — a fast-paced game of softball on the sand. Expect crowds of board short and bikini-clad players and spectators gathering to enjoy the games, food, beer and music.

Jazzed on Cedros Avenue – Sat, Jul 17
Celebrate summer with live jazz playing 12:30-5pm all throughout Cedros Avenue Design District in Solana Beach. Music locaitons include Zinc Cafe, Leaping Lotus and Pink Lagoon. In between sets,  saunter through this art row’s galleries, furniture shops, antique stores, clothing boutiques, jewelery and accessory stores that occupy imaginatively converted warehouses.

City of Carlsbad Lagoon Day – Sat, July 17
Join the City of Carlsbad when they host open house, scavenger hunts and other fun, family-friendly activities at its lagoons: Batiquitos Lagoon Nature Center, Agua Hedionda Lagoon Discovery Center, and Buena Vista Lagoon – North County Audubon Society Nature Center.Visitors will learn about natural resources, prehistoric Native American habitation and current efforts to manage lagoons and watersheds for environmental health.

Spanish Village Art Center Open House – Sat, July 17
Discover Balboa Park’s colorful hamlet of artist studios during this open house. Meet the artists and watch their talents in action, including sculpting, jewelry making, painting, photography, wood carving, glass blowing, and metal smithing. Event includes live music performances and a scavenger hunt. 12-7pm

House of Columbia - Sun, July 18
Revel in the culture, music and dances of Colombia when the House of Colombia hosts their annual lawn program at Balboa Park. They’ll also be selling Colombian delicacies, such as arepas plum cake, plantanos (fried bananas), fried pudding, empanadas, and natilla (a fruit dessert). Program starts at 12pm.

Movies in the Park – Sat, Jul 17
Bring your low-back chairs, blankets, and sweaters to Grape Day Park in Escondido for an outdoor showing of the family-friendly animated film, Planet 51. Escondido Children’s Museum will also be on hand to lead free activities and fun.
